Nikon's lens mount goes back to the Nikon F film SLR of 1959, and the same F bayonet carried through every Nikon DSLR. In 1999 the D1 became the first professional digital SLR to break Kodak's hold on the pro market, and Nikon later split its DSLRs between DX bodies with an APS-C sensor and FX full-frame bodies. In August 2018 it launched the Z mount with the Z6 and Z7, plus the FTZ adapter so F-mount lenses carry over. For used buyers, Nikon has one big convenience, since it writes the shutter count into every photo file.
