DSLR · From 1959
Nikon introduced the F mount on the Nikon F in 1959, a three-lug bayonet with a 44 mm throat and 46.5 mm flange distance. Nikon never abandoned it when autofocus arrived, extending it instead, so more than 400 Nikkor lenses fit, along with lenses from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Zeiss and others. Every Nikon DSLR uses it, from the DX D7500 and D500 to the full-frame D610, D750, D780 and D850.
DX lenses are made for the smaller APS-C sensor and vignette on a full-frame FX body, which crops to DX size to use them. Older manual-focus AI lenses mount on most bodies, but the D7500 can't meter with them.
