Nikon · DSLR · Full-frame · 2014
Nikon announced the D750 in September 2014 as a compact full-frame body with pro features, and Popular Photography named it Camera of the Year. It packs a 24.3-megapixel sensor, the 51-point autofocus from the D4S and D810 that works down to -3 EV, 6.5 frames per second and two SD slots into a monocoque body with a carbon-fiber front and magnesium top and back. It was also the first full-frame DSLR with a tilting screen. As a buyer, the story you need is its two service advisories. In January 2015 Nikon offered free repairs for oddly shaped flare from bright light just above the frame. By February 2016 it was replacing shutters that could shade part of the image on bodies made from October 2014 to June 2015, and in July 2017 it widened that to bodies made from July 2014 through September 2016.

Shutter count
Nikon writes the shutter count into every photo's EXIF maker notes, so a free tool such as ExifTool reads it from an original JPEG or NEF straight off the card. The rating is the maker's test figure, not a limit, so read it as a guide to how much use is left.
How to read a shutter count →The family
The D750 shares its 24.3-megapixel resolution and general body with the D610 but adds the 51-point autofocus, 6.5 fps and a tilting screen. Its 2020 successor, the D780, adds a back-illuminated sensor and live-view phase detection and drops the pop-up flash.
Nikon issued two D750 advisories. Some bodies show oddly shaped flare when a bright light sits just above the frame, fixed free by Nikon and marked with a black dot inside the tripod socket. Bodies made from July 2014 through September 2016 may have a shutter that shades part of the image, which Nikon replaced free even out of warranty.
Buying guide
We'd buy a US body titled tested with a shutter count, and $538 delivered gets one at 44,144 shots, under the $612 median. There are at least 214 listed, and most ask $500–775 delivered, with Japan dealers' boxed Near Mint bodies near the top and kits with the 24-120mm f/4 asking $859 to $1,000. Bodies made from July 2014 through September 2016 fall under Nikon's shutter advisory, so ask for the serial number or repair paperwork, and a black dot inside the tripod socket means the flare fix is done. Where the title gives no count, ask for an original JPEG off the card, since Nikon writes the count into the file, and pick a listing with the EN-EL15 battery and charger or budget for them. Skip the $415 body, titled 158,897 shots, which is past Nikon's 150,000-cycle rating and comes from a seller under 98%.
