Brand
Pentax began in 1919 as a Tokyo lens-polishing workshop and built Japan's first SLR, the Asahiflex, in 1952. Its K mount arrived in 1975 and has never been replaced, so lenses from the film era still fit its digital bodies. The first Pentax DSLR was the *ist D in 2003, sensor-shift Shake Reduction came with the K100D in 2006, and the full-frame K-1 followed in 2016. Ricoh bought the camera business in 2011. In 2026 Ricoh said it would end production of its current K-series DSLRs and develop a new series built on the K mount, so you'll be buying these bodies used.
