Ricoh released the K-3 Mark III in April 2021 as the flagship of Pentax's APS-C range, and Pentax put real effort into the optical finder. It's a glass pentaprism with about 1.05x magnification that Ricoh says gives a view equal to a full-frame SLR. The 25.7-megapixel back-illuminated sensor has no low-pass filter, and Shake Reduction II gives up to 5.5 stops. Autofocus jumped to 101 points from the K-3 II's 27, and it shoots 12 fps with a shutter Ricoh tested to 300,000 releases at that speed. It was also the first Pentax with 4K video and a touchscreen, and it charges its battery over USB-C. Ricoh discontinued it in January 2025, and in 2026 said it would end its current K-series DSLRs.

Shutter count
Pentax writes the count into each photo's maker notes, so ask for an untouched JPEG or RAW file and read it with ExifTool or a similar viewer. The counter leaves out live view and video, and servicing can reset it. The rating is the maker's test figure, not a limit, so read it as a guide to how much use is left.
How to read a shutter count →The family
A K-3 Mark III Monochrome stayed in production until March 2026, after the standard model ended in January 2025. The K-3 II before it has 27 AF points and no 4K video or touchscreen.
We found no service notice for the K-3 Mark III. Only the first card slot runs at UHS-II speed, and the battery charges in the body, so the box has a USB power adapter instead of a charger.
Buying guide
This is a thin market, with only six K-3 Mark III bodies for sale and every one from a Japan dealer, so the $1,650–2,200 band isn't much of a read. We'd take the silver body titled 2,374 shots at $1,600 delivered, since it's both the cheapest and the lowest count here. Ricoh tested the shutter to 300,000 releases, so ask for an untouched JPEG or RAW and read the count with ExifTool, and know that servicing can reset it. Shipping from Japan runs $190–300 and none of the titles state a warranty, so check the photos for the D-LI90 battery and the USB power adapter, since the camera charges in the body, and check the title for Monochrome, which is a separate camera.

$1,599.99est. delivered
The cheapest at $1,600 delivered, and titled only 2,374 shots, under 1% of Ricoh's 300,000-release test. It's the silver body, and the title doesn't name the battery or USB adapter, so ask.
