Canon announced the 7D Mark II in September 2014, five years after the original 7D, and built it for sports and wildlife. Its 65-point AF system makes every point cross-type, more than any EOS camera before it, and dual DIGIC 6 processors drive 10 fps with a buffer Canon rated at more than a thousand JPEGs on a fast CF card. The viewfinder covers 100% at 1.0x, and Canon rates the shutter for 200,000 cycles. It added GPS, a 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor that tracks faces and colors, and anti-flicker timing for indoor lights. The sensor uses Dual Pixel AF, so live view and video focus smoothly too. TIPA named it the best expert DSLR of 2015, and it won Camera of the Year at Japan's Camera Grand Prix. The mirrorless R7 is its nearest successor.

Shutter count
Canon doesn't show the count in the menu or store it in the 7D Mark II's image files. Read it over USB with a shutter-count app that lists the 7D Mark II. The rating is the maker's test figure, not a limit, so read it as a guide to how much use is left.
How to read a shutter count →The family
Over the original 7D it adds 65 cross-type AF points, 10 fps, an SD slot beside the CF slot, GPS and Dual Pixel AF, and its shutter rating rises from 150,000 to 200,000 cycles. The mirrorless R7 followed it.
We found no service notice for the 7D Mark II. These bodies were built for sports and birds, so expect higher shutter counts than on other APS-C Canons and check them against the 200,000 rating.
Buying guide
We'd buy a body with a count in the title, and $508 delivered gets a Japan dealer's 7D Mark II titled 11,118 shots, under the $563 median. There are at least 181 listed, and most ask $500–675 delivered, with many Japan dealers' bodies asking $350 to $500 plus $45 to $130 shipping. Canon rates the shutter at 200,000 cycles, and these bodies were built for sports and birds, so ask for the count over USB with a shutter-count app that lists the 7D Mark II, since titles here run from 1,791 to 133,296 shots. Few titles name the LP-E6N battery and charger, so pick one that does or budget for them. A bundle with a 50mm STM lens doesn't justify twice the median.
