Nikon announced the D7500 in April 2017 and gave it the same 20.9-megapixel sensor and EXPEED 5 processor as its DX flagship, the D500, in a smaller, cheaper body. It shoots 8 frames per second with a buffer of 50 raw files, records 4K video and has a tilting touchscreen and a pop-up flash. The autofocus is a 51-point system with 15 cross-type points, rather than the D500's 153. To make room between the two, Nikon cut some things the D7200 had. There's one SD slot instead of two, no battery grip, a carbon-fiber composite monocoque body instead of a magnesium frame, and no metering with old manual-focus AI lenses. For someone moving up from an entry-level Nikon who wants D500 image quality and doesn't need the pro extras, it's a natural step.

Shutter count
Nikon writes the shutter count into every photo's EXIF maker notes, so a free tool such as ExifTool reads it from an original JPEG or NEF straight off the card. Without a rating, compare the count with how the camera was used and price a busy body lower.
How to read a shutter count →The family
The D7500 replaced the D7200 but drops its second card slot, grip option, metering with old non-CPU lenses and 24-megapixel sensor. It shares the D500's 20.9-megapixel sensor and processor, without the D500's 153-point autofocus.
We found no Nikon service advisory for the D7500 in Nikon USA's advisory archive. Its limits are by design, with one SD slot, no battery grip and no metering with old non-CPU AI lenses.
Buying guide
We'd buy a US body with a low count and the battery and charger, and $640 delivered gets one titled 898 shots, under the $659 median. There are at least 115 listed, and most ask $575–800 delivered, while refurbished cards across the first results page ask a median near $679 and kits with the 18-140mm VR start around $659. Nikon doesn't publish a shutter rating for the D7500, and titles here run from 184 to 235,125 clicks, so ask for an original JPEG or NEF off the card and read the count with ExifTool. Know it has one SD slot, no grip option and no metering with old non-CPU AI lenses before you buy. One US seller lists three from $256 to $617, one titled READ PLEASE, so read each description, and skip the $455 for-parts kit when a complete 18-200mm kit asks $366.
$365.85est. delivered
The lowest-priced D7500 without a READ note, a body with the Nikkor 18-200mm at $366 delivered from a US seller with three listed. It's far under the band and not titled tested, so ask for sample photos and an original file to read the count, and budget for an EN-EL15a and charger.
