Nikon · Mirrorless · Full-frame · 2020
Nikon announced the Z7 II with the Z6 II in October 2020 as its high-resolution mirrorless body. It has a 45.7-megapixel back-illuminated sensor with a base of ISO 64, the same pairing as the D850, plus five-axis in-body stabilization. Over the first Z7 it gains a second card slot for SD cards, two EXPEED 6 processors and 10 frames per second. The buffer grew from 23 to 77 lossless raw files. It also records 4K at 60p with a slight 1.08x crop, and it added eye detection for people and animals in wide-area autofocus. With the FTZ adapter it takes many of Nikon's F-mount lenses, so D850 owners can try it with the lenses they already have.

Shutter count
Nikon writes the shutter count into every photo's EXIF maker notes, so a free tool such as ExifTool reads it from an original JPEG or NEF straight off the card. The count includes electronic-shutter frames, so a body used for silent shooting reads higher than its mechanical wear. Without a rating, compare the count with how the camera was used and price a busy body lower.
How to read a shutter count →The family
Over the original Z7, the Z7 II adds an SD UHS-II slot, two EXPEED 6 processors, 10 fps and a much deeper buffer, with the same 45.7-megapixel resolution. A Z7 has only the one CFexpress/XQD slot behind its card door.
We found no Nikon service advisory for the Z7 II in Nikon USA's advisory archive. Check it's really a II, since the original Z7 looks almost the same and has only one card slot.
Buying guide
We'd buy a US body with a count in the title, and $1,500 with free shipping gets one titled 22,030 shots with its box, under the $1,700 median. There are at least 84 listed, and most ask $1,525–2,250 delivered, while refurbished cards across the first results page ask a median near $1,697, about what used ones do, and open-box ones around $2,158. Nikon doesn't publish a shutter rating for the Z7 II, so read the count from an original JPEG or NEF with ExifTool, and know it includes electronic-shutter frames, so a body used for silent shooting reads higher than its wear. Check it's really a II with two card slots, since the original Z7 looks almost the same, and look for the EN-EL15c battery and MH-25a charger. Skip China listings titled 47.5MP that share photos across accounts, check the menu on the UK body titled Chinese Language, and don't plan on the $510 auction, which has 14 bids and will climb.
