Canon · Mirrorless · Full-frame · 2020
The R6 launched with the R5 on 9 July 2020, and it's the one to pick if speed and low light matter more to you than pixels. Its 20.1-megapixel sensor is a customized version of the one in the flagship EOS-1D X Mark III, and it reaches ISO 102,400 natively. You get 12 fps with the mechanical shutter and 20 fps electronically, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with eye, face and body detection for people, dogs, cats and birds, and in-body stabilization rated up to 8 stops. Canon rates the shutter for 300,000 cycles, ahead of the Sony A7 III and Nikon Z6 in dpreview's comparison. Two UHS-II SD slots mean you don't need CFexpress cards. It followed the 6D Mark II in Canon's full-frame lineup, and the R6 Mark II later replaced it.

Shutter count
Canon doesn't show the count in the menu. Ask the seller to connect the camera over USB to a shutter-count app that lists the R6 and send a screenshot. The rating is the maker's test figure, not a limit, so read it as a guide to how much use is left.
How to read a shutter count →The family
The R6 Mark II replaced it, and later R6 models followed. Check the listing title, since the R6 itself has no suffix.
Video heat limits recording time. Canon quotes about 30 minutes of full-width 4K 60p at room temperature, dpreview found that any earlier use of the camera cuts into that, and firmware 1.1.1 improved the heat management.
Buying guide
We'd buy a US body with a count in the title, and $1,208 delivered gets one titled 31,000 shots, about a tenth of Canon's 300,000-cycle rating and well under the $1,643 median. There are at least 129 listed, and most ask $1,325–2,125 delivered, with kits with the RF 24-105mm f/4L asking $1,708 to $3,238. Every body under $1,200 here comes with a reason to read the description first, from a READ title or a counter data issue to a main photo of an EOS R8. Canon doesn't show the count in the menu, so ask for a screenshot from a USB shutter-count app that lists the R6, and look for the LP-E6NH battery and a Canon charger, since few titles name them. Skip zero-feedback sellers asking $1,200 to $2,850, and the 24-50mm kit that two China sellers list with the same photo.
$1,207.52est. delivered
The lowest-priced R6 without a READ note or a fault in the title, a US body at $1,208 delivered titled 31,000 shots. No battery or charger is named, so budget for an LP-E6NH and charger.

A count of 31,000 is about a tenth of Canon's 300,000-cycle rating, and at $1,208 delivered it's $435 under the median. Ask for the USB screenshot to confirm the count the seller titled.
