Canon · DSLR · Full-frame · 2017
Canon announced the 6D Mark II in June 2017, and it became the first Canon full-frame DSLR with a vari-angle screen. That flip-out touchscreen, with Dual Pixel AF behind it in live view and video, made it popular with travel shooters and vloggers. Through the viewfinder you get 45 AF points, all cross-type, up from 11 on the original 6D. They sit in a tight cluster around the middle, though, so you'll focus and recompose more than on a 5D. Critics also knocked its low-ISO dynamic range and the lack of 4K video, and dpreview said that range was sorely lacking at lower ISOs. It shoots 6.5 fps, takes one SD card and manages about 1,200 shots per charge through the viewfinder. Canon ended production around February 2024, and the mirrorless R6 is its nearest successor.

Shutter count
Canon doesn't show the count in the menu or store it in the image files. Read it over USB with a shutter-count app that lists the 6D Mark II. Without a rating, compare the count with how the camera was used and price a busy body lower.
How to read a shutter count →The family
Over the original 6D it moves from 20 to 26.2 megapixels and from 11 AF points with one cross-type to 45 cross-type points, and adds Dual Pixel AF and a vari-angle touchscreen. The mirrorless R6 followed it.
We found no service notice for the 6D Mark II. Its known weaknesses are design limits, with low-ISO dynamic range that trails rivals, 45 AF points bunched near the center and no 4K video.
Buying guide
We'd buy a 6D Mark II body titled tested or refurbished, and $514 to $575 delivered gets one, under the $675–1,150 band. There are at least 156 listed, mostly body only, and kits with the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II ask about $1,780 delivered. Canon doesn't publish a shutter rating for it or put the count in the image files, so ask the seller to read it over USB with an app that lists the 6D Mark II. Titled counts here run from 116 to about 28,900 shots, which is light use. Check for the LP-E6N battery and a charger, ask for a white-wall shot at f/16 to show sensor dust, and skip the zero-feedback seller.
$513.56delivered
The lowest fixed price on a 6D Mark II, a refurbished body at $514 delivered from a US dealer with 99.8% feedback. The title gives no count or accessories, so ask for the count and whether the LP-E6N battery and a charger are included.
