Sony · Mirrorless · APS-C · 2019
The A6600 arrived in August 2019 as Sony's flagship APS-C body, replacing the A6500. Its biggest change is in the grip, which got deeper so it could hold the NP-FZ100 battery from the full-frame A7 III, and DPReview said that gave it the best battery life of any mirrorless camera, over 800 shots per charge by CIPA's count. Inside is a 24.2 MP sensor on 5-axis in-body stabilization, plus improved autofocus and a headphone jack, a first for the A6000 series. Video clips no longer stop at 30 minutes, and Sony took out the built-in flash. DPReview praised the autofocus and grumbled about small, fiddly controls and the single UHS-I card slot, which takes a long time to clear after a burst. The common kit paired it with the 18-135mm zoom. The A6700 later replaced it.

Shutter count
Sony stores the count, encrypted, inside each original image file. Ask for an untouched JPEG or ARW straight off the card and read it with a free reader such as shuttertool.com or ExifTool, both of which decode it for the A6600. Without a rating, compare the count with how the camera was used and price a busy body lower.
How to read a shutter count →The family
It replaced the A6500 as Sony's top APS-C body. Over the A6400 it adds in-body stabilization, a deeper grip holding the NP-FZ100 battery and a headphone jack, and it drops the built-in flash. The A6700 succeeded it.
We found no recall for the A6600. DPReview's complaints were the slow single UHS-I card slot, some operational lag and rolling shutter in 4K, none of which a used body fixes or worsens.
Buying guide
We'd buy a refurbished a6600 with a titled count from US stock, and $874 delivered gets one at 3,387 shots, right at the $858 median. There are at least 192 listed, and most ask $800–1,050 delivered, with China resellers filling the bottom with bodies and 16-50mm kits at $777 to $858, while refurbished bodies across the page ask about what used ones do. Sony doesn't publish a shutter rating, so ask for an untouched JPEG or ARW and read the count at shuttertool.com or with ExifTool. Ask whether the NP-FZ100 battery and a charger come with it, and distrust titles that promise a flash, since the a6600 doesn't have one. Skip the zero-feedback sellers, and the Japan listings at $1,658 and up, one of them adding $670 shipping.

The lowest-priced a6600, $750 with free shipping from a US seller. The title names nothing beyond the camera, so ask whether the NP-FZ100 battery and a charger are included, and for a sample file to read the count.
